Thank you to all the parents and students who came out to support the Book Fair. We raised a good amount of money that we will be able to use to support our school library and school literacy initiatives. A special thank you to all the parent volunteer who ensured the bookfair was open for business throughout the 5 days; we couldn’t have done it without you!

Brownridge Bears clothing has arrived!! We are pleased to announce that we have created the opportunity for staff, students, and parents to purchase Brownridge Bears hoodies, pants, t-shirts, and shorts. We feel that the clothing is just another way to create a positive school environment and make the Brownridge Family even stronger.
The Brownridge Bear Wear comes in a navy blue colour with the Brownridge Bears logo and lettering. They come in various sizes from youth small to adult extra large. Please complete the order form below if you wish to order some Bear Wear. Please make cheques payable to Brownridge Public School and return to your homeroom teachers by November 28th, 2014.
At Brownridge, we are continuing to create a positive climate for learning and we hope that our new Brownridge Bear Wear will support school spirit and student unity.

Tomorrow afternoon, our grade 6-8 girls will be viewing a documentary about girl-against-girl. Please read the brief synopsis below on how the Finding Kind initiative evolved.
The idea began with Lauren Paul and Molly Thompson joining forces in 2009. The pair had an idea for a documentary about girl-against-girl bullying, which ultimately became Kind Campaign, an internationally recognized movement, documentary, and school assembly program based on the powerful belief in KINDness that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl “crime.” Niki Ghazi and Danielle Anastasio, two Ontario certified teachers volunteering within the Brownridge community, have won our school a screening of the documentary and hope to create change by giving females a platform to speak out about this universal experience. Following the screening of the documentary, Danielle and Niki hope to open up a conversation with the intermediate girls about how we can create a kinder Brownridge community.
Due to the impending weather, our Book Fair is closing at 4:00 p.m. If you were intending to make a purchase after 4:00, please send the money with your child tomorrow and we will do our best to accoommodate first thing in the morning. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Please note that the book fair will be open only until 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday. We thank everyone for their support in making the book fair a great success.
Please know that we monitor the weather (Weather Network – Thornhill) on a daily/hourly basis in regards to students going outdoors for recess. We do take into account the wind chill factor. When the weather is minus 20 degrees and colder, students remain inside for recess.
It is important you send your child appropriately dressed for the winter weather when the temperature allows for outdoor recess. Please also ensure that your child has indoor shoes.
Our Book Fair continues this week. It will be open for students to visit and purchase books at recess and lunch hour.
On Wednesday Nov. 19th the Book Fair will also be open from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. Free pencils and bookmarks will be given out to all families that come out to our Book Fair on this evening.

The winter weather has returned and so it is time to remind everyone to come to school dressed for the colder temperatures. Please ensure that your children come to school with winter coats, snow pants, hats, gloves and boots. They need to have indoor shoes at school, as well, a dry pair of socks is helpful on these wet days.

The Government of Ontario has designated the week of November 17 as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. During this week, schools across York Region will be focused on addressing cyberbullying. York Region District School Board has been working collaboratively with York Regional Police and the York Catholic District School Board to develop resources to support school-wide cyberbullying awareness initiatives.
Cyberbullying is the use of electronic devices and or the internet to threaten, embarrass, socially exclude and harass. Cyberbullying can occur through various forms of social media, including: texting, email, chats, websites, instant messaging, cell phones and through pictures/video clips. Cyberbullying is often aggressive behaviour that can be intentional or unintentional, direct or indirect. It may include: mocking, insults, threats, racist, homophobic comments, gossiping, spreading of rumours, excluding, humiliating and shunning.
How to tell if your child is being cyberbullied?

Dear Parents,
Today our Scholastic Book Fair arrives and by lunch we should be set up and ready. We are hoping to exceed last year’s goal of $3,800 dollars. We hope to see you come out in support of our school literacy program. Our aim is to continue to work towards purchasing resources to keep our library collection fresh and exciting for our students. Scholastic offers us for running the book fair a percentage of the profits so please come out and support us in meeting our goal.
