Is your child in grades four or five?  Would your child enjoy learning the Ontario Curriculum collaboratively through the Arts?

If so, the York Region District School Board offers an elementary integrated Arts Program at Baythorn Public School. Students currently in grades four and five may apply for the arts@baythorn Program, where they will have the opportunity to explore the disciplines of Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, and Music while meeting the expectations of the Ontario Curriculum in a cooperative learning environment.

To learn more about the arts@baythorn program, students and their families are invited to attend an information evening at Baythorn P.S. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.  Applications will be available online after the January 18th information night.

Kindergarten Registration to Commence January 19, 2018

Kindergarten registration will commence on January 19, 2018 for the 2018-19 school year. Registration forms are available on YRDSB’s website: www.yrdsb.ca. Children who turn four or five years old during 2018, live within the school boundary and whose parents are public school tax supporters will be eligible to register for kindergarten. A kindergarten information session for parents is being planned for this spring. For more information please visit the YRDSB website or contact your local school.

FRENCH IMMERSION (FI) INFORMATION SESSION AND REGISTRATION

An information session for the French Immersion (FI) program will take place at Louis-Honoré Frechetté Public School on January 18, 2018 at 7 p.m.  (If you do not live in the Brownridge PS. catchment area or will be moving to another area, please visit the program location page on the YRDSB website to find the FI program location for your elementary school location.)  FI registration will begin January 19, 2018.

Parents or guardians of Senior Kindergarten students entering Grade 1 in 2018, and wishing to enrol in the FI Program, can visit or call the school office and request an Office Index Card – short version. The Office Index Card must be signed by the principal of the home school. Parents or guardians then take this form, along with one piece of identification showing their address to the designated FI program location to register between January 19 and February 9, 2018. This eliminates the need to provide duplicate enrollment information or to pre-register.

YRDSB’s FI Accommodation Plan provides long-term consistency and equity of access to all students in York Region and will enable YRDSB to continue to offer the FI program to all who wish to enrol. The FI program will be offered in Dual Track or Single Track settings, in a variety of configurations. In order to meet community needs and optimize available space in our schools, a community’s Grade 1-8 FI program may be provided over more than one school during the course of a student’s FI education. Space requirements at some schools may mean that siblings are in different schools for primary dual track French Immersion programs due to differing grade structures. Like any of our schools across the Board, changes to school boundaries, and/or the accommodation model for the French Immersion program may need to be considered when new schools open, a school experiences enrolment growth, and program changes occur. This will allow flexibility in addressing community needs and the opportunity to use existing space in schools.

Please note: Some of the FI accommodation plans will require facility modifications or the development of new schools and will require short-term transition plans that might include overflow while we work toward the long-term vision. Overflow refers to situations in which the Board directs students to attend a school other than their community school or optional program for a specific period of time, as defined in Policy #108.

SPIRIT DAY is tomorrow- students and staff can dress as their favourite character from a story, book, comic, play or something they have or will read. WE HAVE SPIRIT, YES WE DO, WE HAVE SPIRIT, HOW ABOUT YOU?

The Scholastic Book Fair is open this week at Brownridge. Check out the amazing variety of reading materials that will inspire, make you laugh, and wonder. The Book fair will be open in the evening of Nov 23 during Student Led Conferences/Parent Teacher Interviews.

Parking Lot Safety- Our students are precious! We need to ensure their safety at all times. Please note the following: The bus loop is only to be used for buses from 8:00am-9:00am and from 2:00pm-3:15pm. Cars are not permitted to use the bus loop during these times (You will see pylons in the bus loop as a reminder). During pick up and drop off, please park on the street and walk your student/have your student walk as we want to minimize the amount of traffic that flows through our parking lot.  If you do use the Brownridge parking lot, cars should enter only through the one way entrance and exit through the one way exit. This will help to avoid a potential accident. Finally, please drive slowly.

CAMP MUSKOKA- Outdoor Education Leadership Centre Grade 8 Trip Information Night- TONIGHT

Dear Parents / Guardians,

We are planning an exciting trip to Camp Muskoka Outdoor Education Leadership Centre for this year’s Grade 8 students from Monday, March 05, 2018 to Wednesday, March 07, 2018

The Camp Muskoka overnight experience offers students a great opportunity to learn and develop leadership skills that will benefit the entire school community. While at Camp Muskoka, students will be submerged in a beautiful, natural forest setting where they will have the opportunity to experience numerous hands-on, curriculum-linked educational and recreational activities. Camp Muskoka’s teaching staff specializes in leadership training and team building workshops, both of which will be integrated throughout the program.

One of the featured activities included in this excursion is Camp Muskoka’s Canopy Aerial Park. This 18 element high ropes challenge course takes students on an eco-adventure through the forest canopy of Camp Muskoka, culminating with the longest zip-line in Ontario. Challenge Course activities are designed to encourage leadership, communication skills and social development within a student group.

While this type of trip normally costs more than $450 per student, Camp Muskoka has offered a special promotion enabling us to experience an all-inclusive 3 Day, 2 Night Outdoor Education (meals, accommodations, bus, programs and taxes) for only $245 per student.

The staff of Camp Muskoka will be hosting a parent information night at Brownridge PS to inform parents of the details of the trip as well as answer any questions. SPIRIT DAY AT BROWNRIDGE- DRESS AS A CHARACTER FROM A BOOK ON WEDNESDAY

Our students and staff have awesome spirit at Brownridge!!! Wednesday, November 22 is a spirit day. Dress up like your favourite character from a book, a story, a comic, a play or something you have read or want to read. Need some ideas? Visit the Scholastic Book Fair taking place this week in the library!!!

BROWNRIDGE IS BUZZING!

Brownridge is buzzing with amazing things happening! Here’s what you need to know!

• Student-Led conferences/Parent teacher interviews are taking place on Thursday and Friday (Nov 23 and 24). If you have not already registered with Edsby and booked an appointment, please do so by Nov 21. Need help? Please call the office for support.
• PA DAY– There is no school for students on Friday, Nov 24. Conferences/interviews will be taking place on this day.
• Progress Reports are coming home on Wednesday, November 22. These reports are an indication of how your student is doing in relation to achieving the expectations by the end of term one. This will be a great opportunity to engage in goal setting with your student and create a plan to achieve that goal.

• Attention Grade 8 Parents/Guardians– Just a reminder that our Grade 8 Muskoka Trip parent information session is taking place on Monday, November 20 at 6pm in room 204.

• Congratulations to the Intermediate Boys Volleyball team for demonstrating amazing team work and collaboration on the court at the Volleyball Areas which took place at Brownridge this week. Their hard work and determination was second to none. Thank you to Mr. Hinds and Ms. Suh for coaching this amazing team. Good luck to our Intermediate Girls Volleyball team next week!

• Junior Volleyball tryouts are taking place in two weeks.

  SPIRIT WEAR- Brownridge Spirit Wear (Clothing) is available for purchase now!!! Don’t delay….. all of the information is on our school blog and on School cash online. Look good, feel good and show your spirit! Last day for orders is December 8.

 

• HOLIDAY HEROES CAMPAIGN– Our Holiday Heroes campaign is beginning shortly. Since the launch of the campaign in 2008, York Regional Police has raised more than $1 million in monetary donations, new toys, new children’s clothing and food. As always, all donations raised in York Region, stay in York Region. Our success could never have been achieved without the help of our important school friends. This year’s school campaign will run until December 15, 2017. One hundred percent of donations directly support the children from our community who are in need.

Here are some ways you can help:

• Contribute new unwrapped toys for all ages (Bins will be in the front foyer)
• Donate new warm clothing, pajamas, coats, hats and mitts (Bins will be in the front foyer)
• Donate grocery and department store gift cards (There is a collection box on the office)

• SAVE THE DATE– Our awesome school council is organizing our second school event of the year. BINGO NIGHT IS TAKING PLACE ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14. Stay tuned for more information.

• SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR- The Book Fair is coming to Brownridge from Nov. 21-24! All classes will have an opportunity to visit during the day to preview the selection. Students may fill out a “wish list” of the books that interest them for you to see and may also purchase at this time if they have money.

***The book fair will remain open during Parent-Teacher interviews/Student led conferences on Thurs. Nov. 23 from 4:00-8:00 and Fri. Nov. 24 until noon. Let’s continue to promote a love of reading!
