Inclement Weather Message

30 Nov

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

This may affect our ability to operate student transportation and open school and board locations to students. As a precaution, please make alternate arrangements for your children in the event a closure is required due to inclement weather.

As noted in our communication to families last week, this year, when an inclement weather day is declared, school transportation will be cancelled and schools will be closed to students. If an inclement weather day is declared, please do not send your child to school. In previous years, schools have remained open when school transportation is cancelled, however, given the importance of adhering to our health and safety guidelines, schools will be closed to students on inclement weather days. We are unable to guarantee appropriate coverage for students on inclement weather days when school transportation is closed and classes cannot be combined.

Announcements will be posted as early as possible and no later than 6:00 a.m. Please check the following for updates:

  • Student Transportation Services website: schoolbuscity.com
  • Student Transportation Hotline: 1-877-330-3001
  • @YRDSB Twitter account
  • Board website (www.yrdsb.ca) and school websites
  • Radio and TV media outlets

Please continue to monitor local media for up to date weather forecasts and take safety precautions advised by local authorities.

Our priority continues to be the safety of our students, staff members and families.

PROGRESS REPORTS

19 Nov

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We hope this correspondence finds you and your family well.

Your child’s Term 1 Progress report will be distributed electronically on November 19 and 20, using their GAPPS accounts.

The Progress Report, provides you with information about your child’s general progress in working toward the achievement of the curriculum expectations across subject areas.  The Report Card has only the following Ministry provided indicators:

  • Progressing with Difficulty
  • Progressing Well
  • Progressing Very Well

As typical, not all strands/subjects may be taught/ assessed by this time or in this term. This year, reintegration into the school environment may take additional time, and the early part of the school year may focus on mental health, well-being and the development of a safe, inviting and inclusive learning community.

For all Progress Reports, our board will include the following statement provided by the Ministry of Education: “This reporting period reflects learning that has occurred in a modified learning environment, as required by the provincial public health guidelines. As a result, the rate of progress described on this report card may differ from previous years due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on student learning. Ongoing communication with your child’s teacher will provide additional information pertaining to student progress throughout the term.”

Overall, progress reports provide you information about your child’s achievement during the first part of the term.  We hope that this report will encourage your child while supporting conversations about learning at home.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s educators. How to Access Electronic Report Cards.

Thanks,

The Brownridge Team
